In late May 2018, the FNR held a workshop to launch a new network for science communicators in Luxembourg, attended by more than 40 animators, teachers, science communicators from research and other institutions, as well as representatives from asbls.
The aim of the network is to bring science communicators together. To encourage this, the half-day launch event included ‘speed networking’, as well as group discussions about challenges and opportunities in science communication. Feedback from participants has been positive and it is clear that there is a demand for such a network – many participants also expressed that the FNR, with its connections to many Luxembourg public institutions involved in science, is well-placed to bring science communicators from all areas together.
The event was moderated by Quest, who have also compiled a report detailing the conclusions from the individual discussions and overall workshop.
This is not the first science network the FNR has launched – in 2008, the FNR launched the initiative ProScience, which aimed to connect communicators from research institutions/ institutions. In 2009, the group GoForScience was launched that brought together teachers, animators and representatives from asbls. A key demand that came out of this was the need for a platform to promote science in Luxembourg. A direct result of this initiative was science.lu, which was launched in 2013. The new initiative launched this year can be considered as a merger of ProScience and GoForScience.
