The 2020 FNR Awards Ceremony will take place in a 100% digital format. Join us in our annual celebration of science and research in Luxembourg, via a stream on Thursday, 19 November 2020 from 19:00 CET.
FNR Awards: 12 editions of rewarding excellence in research
Since 2009, the FNR holds the annual FNR Awards to reward excellence in research.
The FNR annually presents awards in the categories ‘Outstanding Scientific Publication’; ‘Outstanding PhD Thesis’; ‘Outstanding Promotion of Science to the Public’, with ‘Outstanding Research-Driven Innovation’ added for the first time in 2017. These are presented at the annual FNR Awards Ceremony, usually attended by the Minister for Higher Education and Research. With the FNR Awards, the FNR aims to encourage communication between researchers, and to promote science-related activities aimed at the general public and the young. The FNR Awards highlight such work and reward both the awardees and their institutions. 64 FNR Awards have been awarded across the various categories since 2009.

Why digital?
Due to the worrying increase in new cases of Covid-19 infections and as a result of the new restrictions put in place by the Government, it is with a lot of regrets that we inform you of our decision to cancel this 2020 edition of the FNR Awards Ceremony in its hybrid form.
Aware of our responsibilities towards all our participants and attendees, we worked hard over the last months to offer a secure event with a restricted number of guests and that complies with all the health measures currently in force. But given the new restrictions that have recently been put in place, the uncertainties around the future evolution of the pandemic in the upcoming weeks and considering all the facts and the responsibility we have as an organiser towards our guests, we concluded that it is better for everyone’s safety to not pursue with the physical version of our event.
Notwithstanding the difficult context we are evolving in, we want to celebrate Luxembourg’s research with you and will bring the ceremony directly into your home while you will be comfortably seated in your sofa! All you will have to do is to sit back, relax and enjoy your evening in the company of our 2020 Awardees!
